Dining Pick of the Week: Pinkbox Doughnuts
PICK OF THE WEEK:
PINKBOX DOUGHNUTS
7531 W. Lake Mead Blvd. at Buffalo Drive, 702-478-7465
One cannot live by coffee alone, and Pinkbox Doughnuts’ answer to this is “have a doughnut.” And what a delicious, unique and colorful doughnut it is. Date with a Nutty Pig has a date-balsamic filling topped with bacon, blue cheese, almonds, dates and a balsamic glaze. The Fat Elvis is a yeast-raised doughnut topped with chocolate icing and a caramelized banana and filled with a homemade peanut butter and banana filling. Campfire S’mores feature a homemade marshmallow cream center with a chocolate icing, topped with mini charred marshmallows. All doughnuts are made throughout the day from scratch and placed in a pink bakery box to go. Other specialties are the very popular Bacon Maple Bar, Cookies-n-Creme (Oreo cake with buttercream frosting), Sweet Potato, Bavarian creme-filled, Chocolate Cake with coconut and almonds, Cinnamon Spice, Vanilla Sugar, Apple Pie Fritter and Chipotle Caramel. As more fresh fruit becomes available through the summer (strawberries, blueberries, cherries, apricots), expect to find even more specialty doughnuts on display. And for traditionalists, there are glazed and cake doughnuts. One classic doughnut is $1, specialties are $1.25 each and gourmet doughnuts are $1.75 each ($12.50 per dozen). Pinkbox Doughnuts is open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. — Jack Bulavsky
