Disabled man found confined to roach-infested bed soaked in urine, feces

Mt. Morris, MI — "I've never seen a human being living in these type of conditions."

Mt. Morris Police Chief Terence Green said a 62-year-old man, severely injured while on the job at General Motors, was living in this home under the care of two of the man's family members: Andrew Green and Patsy Marshall.

"Daily needs, as far as bathing, meals, medical appointments, things of that nature," Chief Green said.

But that care didn't happen. Chief Green said the man was confined to a bed soaked in his own urine, feces and infested with cockroaches, for anywhere from three to five years.

"The father was located in a second floor bedroom, so you could smell, you could detect the odor from the front door," Chief Green said.

And that odor is what triggered the man's two out-of-state children to call police.

They went to check on their dad, but continued to get the run-around from his caretakers. Outside the house, the smell of urine and feces prompted them to contact police.

"Those individuals who were supposed to be caring for him were in fact doing the exact opposite. They were allowing him to live in those conditions and it's really quite sad," said Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton.

Leyton said this is a serious case, charging both Andrew Green and Marshall with first-degree elder abuse.

"It's heart-wrenching to see a human being thank someone from removing him a situation where they are covered in feces, cock roaches and a urine soaked bed," Chief Green said.
