Female veterans to discuss
trauma of war, life after

The second annual UNLV Combat Trauma Conference is set for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 25 and 8 a.m. to noon May 26 at the Richard Tam Alumni Center at UNLV, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.

Female veterans will discuss the emotional trauma of combat during the conference for medical professionals, counselors, legislators and veterans groups. The conference is designed to help provide understanding of problems and develop solutions for issues facing female veterans, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, military sexual trauma, homelessness, physical health issues and family trouble.

Speakers are set to include retired Brig. Gen. Rebecca Halstead, retired Col. Kim Olson, author of "Iraq and Back"; Elizabeth Gifford of the VA Palo Alto Health Care System and U.S. representatives from across the country.

The public may register for the conference by calling the WestCare Foundation at 385-2090.
