Ensign says press unfair

After being asked repeatedly by reporters for months now to explain the issues surrounding his extramarital affair and accusations he may have broken the law in its aftermath, Sen. John Ensign said he is a victim of "gotcha" journalism.

The Nevada Republican made the charge against the media Wednesday to a reporter from Politico.com who had just asked him whether he has been subpoenaed in the ongoing investigations.

“Whether it’s Republican or Democrat, it’s about nailing somebody,” Ensign said. “So sometimes people look at something, and whether or not it’s true, they want to try to nail them on it.”

Democrats pounced, with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee saying it was sending Ensign a gift: the world's tiniest violin.
