ENTERTAINMENT: Just don’t try to buy drumsticks

You’d think an in-store appearance by legendary jazz drummer Louie Bellson would be at a place that sells drums, not embroidery.
But Ron Weinstein opened the Las Vegas outlet of the national chain Embroid Me, 8174 Las Vegas Blvd. South, about three years ago, so that’s where his mentor Bellson will be meeting fans and signing copies of his new album from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday.
Bellson was “like a father to me when I was in my drum days,” Weinstein says of their 40-year relationship. Bellson and his late wife, singer Pearl Bailey, even paid Weinstein’s way to a music degree.
Being 83 hasn’t stopped San Jose, Calif., resident Bellson and trumpeter Clark Terry from recording the big band album “Louie and Clark Expedition 2.” Call Weinstein at 453-8004 for more information.
