April 9, 2014 - 3:11 pm
The first Instagram post from space happened on Monday, and it tops every Instagram post ever.
Literally.
Astronaut Steven R. Swanson, aboard the International Space Station, uploaded the photo to the ISS Instagram account with the caption: “Back on ISS, life is good.” - Swanny #nasa #iss #exp39 #cupola #international #space #station #soyuz #earth.
And it’s not the first time social media has been used high above Earth.
According to Mashable, Astronaut Mike Hopkins was the first to post a selfie in space last Christmas Eve, and it was incredible.
On May 12, 2009, Astronaut Mike Massimino sent the first tweet from space. According to NASA, Massimino typed out the tweet and emailed it to the Johnson Space Center who then tweeted from his account for him.
The first real-time tweet from space happened in Jan. 2010, according to The Huffington Post, when Astronaut TJ Creamer posted the tweet from space that said, “Hello Twitterverse! We r now LIVE tweeting from the International Space Station — the 1st live tweet from Space! :) More soon, send your ?s.”
And don’t forget the first Foursquare check-in from space, which happened on Oct. 22, 2010. According to Mashable, Astronaut Douglas H. Wheelock checked in to ISS with a message that read, “I just unlocked the ‘Nasa Explorer’ badge on @foursquare!”
