‘Fresh’ radio goes stale as station moves into the here-and-‘Now’

  “Fresh 102.7” — aka KFRH-FM — apparently turned moldy enough to toss it in favor of the station’s new format-branding as “102.7 Now” on Wednesday.
  The Beasley Broadcast station, which as “Fresh” played a hot-adult contemporary format of music from the 1960s through today, is now — make that “NOW” — programming CHR, or contemporary hits radio, drawing its playlist from current hits. That means the list of the usual Top 40 suspects, such as Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Black Eyed Peas and Rihanna (no word on whether that Chris Brown guy is on the roster, too).
  The switch, they hope, will serve up the 18- to 49-year-old crowd on a ratings-rich platter.
  “Now” joins Beasley’s other Top-40 stations in Miami and Philadelphia, WPOW-FM and WRDW-FM respectively, both presumably just as here-and-Now-ish as 102.7. Though wouldn’t that make the Miami station the POW-NOW station? Anyone powwow over that one?
  Never mind.
  Anyway, just so we’re thorough, a reminder that Beasley’s other Vegas stations are KKLZ-FM, 96.3 (classic hits — ah, c’mon, just call ’em “oldies” like the Almighty intended), KCYE-FM, 104.3 (“The Coyote” howling their country hits), KDWN-AM, 720 with its chipper chitchat, and KBET-AM, 790.
  But keep in mind this switch was announced on April 1. Let’s hope Beasley isn’t making April Fools out of an entire city. In Vegas, that would be the ultimate sin.
