Heck 47, Titus 44 in The Hill poll

A poll published this morning in The Hill, a Capitol Hill newspaper, shows Republican Joe Heck leading incumbent Democratic Rep. Dina Titus by 3 percentage points in Nevada's Third Congressional District.

The Heck lead of 47-44 is within the poll's margin of error, and The Hill says Titus "is more than holding her own."  But The Hill saw signs of trouble for Titus in that the remaining undecided voters are leaning Republican and she faces a gender gap with male voters who are leaning to Heck.

The poll was conducted Sept. 25-27 among 403 likely voters interviewed by phone. Its margin of error was plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.

Here's the poll.

The Hill and America's Natural Gas Alliance are polling in 42 tossup House races. The questions are being posed by a team led by pollster Mark Penn, whose most high profile clients have been Bill and Hillary Clinton.

In the first batch of 12 races that focused on freshmen the polling found Republicans with leads in 11 races although most were close and half were within the poll's margin of error.
