NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR SENIOR CITIZEN OF THE YEAR
Nominations are being sought for Nevada’s Senior Citizen of the Year. Anyone 60 or older who has lived in Nevada for at least five years is eligible to be nominated.
The National Silver Haired Congress Nevada Delegation, in partnership with the Aging Services Directors Organization, established the award in 2013. Las Vegas resident Raymonde Fiol, 77, was the 2014 recipient.
The deadline for nominations is March 31. Guidelines and nomination forms are available at nevshc.org or by calling 702 860-6349. The award will be presented in May.
HENDERSON MAYOR AND COUNCILWOMAN APPOINTED TO NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES COMMITTEES
The National League of Cities, a resource and advocate for America’s cities and towns, appointed Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen chair of its 2015 Finance, Administration & Intergovernmental Relations Committee and Henderson Councilwoman Gerri Schroder as a member of it 2015 Community and Economic Development Steering Committee.
In his role as committee chair, Hafen is scheduled to help shape the NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities and towns before Congress and at home. The committee is tasked with developing NLC federal policy positions on issues involving national economic policy, general financial assistance programs, intergovernmental relations, capital finance, municipal management, citizen participation, civil rights, labor relations and municipal authority.
As a member of the committee, Schroder is set to be responsible for assisting in the development of NLC federal policy positions on issues involving housing, community and economic development, land use, recreation and parks, historic preservation and international competitiveness.

AMERICAN RED CROSS PLANS BLOOD DRIVES FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH
The American Red Cross plans various blood drives throughout February in honor of Black History Month.
Drives are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Green Valley Range, 175 Cassia Way; 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., 1401 S. Boulder Highway; and 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nevada State College, 1125 Nevada State Drive.
A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Appointments are required.
