Sunset Garden Club schedules meeting for today at Paseo Verde Library
The Sunset Garden Club plans to meet at noon today at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway. The February program is expected to be a mini flower show presented by garden club members. The event is open to the public.
Desert Newcomers to host monthly luncheon at Henderson restaurant
Desert Newcomers Club Inc. for women has scheduled its monthly luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Henry's American Grill, 237 N. Stephanie St. The club is for women who have lived in the Las Vegas area for less than three years and want to have fun with activities and find new friends. Also, February is open enrollment, which means any woman who has lived in the area for more than three years can join if she has not been a member of the club previously. RESOURCE CENTER OFFERS SEMINAR
The Henderson Business Resource Center, 112 S. Water St., is scheduled to host a seminar from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
The seminar is expected to include topics such as how to be creative with businesses, how to conduct productive meetings and discovering a leadership style.

Learn how to do advanced internet searches during library program
Henderson Libraries is scheduled to host a secondary course on the Internet for people already familiar with the basics at 10 a.m. Feb. 22 at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway. The advanced class is expected to cover methods of searching online.
Class size is limited to 12 people and is on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call 492-6580.
Registration under way
for Henderson Senior Games
Registration for the 2012 Henderson Senior Games is open through March 20. The annual program is a sporting and social event for athletes 50 or older and celebrates the spirit of friendly competition and achievement.
Registration is $15 per person (with exception to volleyball) and includes an event T-shirt. Most events entered cost $3 to $5 each. Registration will not be accepted after March 20, but walk- ins may be accepted at some events depending on space availability.
The Henderson Senior Games are scheduled from April 10-29 at a variety of Henderson locations.
First-, second- and third-place awards will be presented at the close of each event.

HENDERSON seeks ARTISTS
for May festival
Henderson is seeking artists to participate in an art festival May 12-13 at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water St.
The event, which is scheduled for Mother's Day weekend, is expected to feature artists, crafters, live entertainment, chalk art, interactive stations and children's activities.
Deadline for applications is March 19.

Learn about basic auto maintenance during workshops in March and April
The city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department plans to host basic auto maintenance workshops in March and April. Enrollment is $9 per workshop and is for participants 18 or older.
Workshops are scheduled from 7 to 8:15 p.m. March 19 (activity 191152-36) and April 9 (activity 191152-37) at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive. Another workshop is scheduled from 7 to 8:15 p.m. April 3 (activity 191152-48) at the Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St.
Topics are expected to include proper preventative care, including why it is important to change the car's oil, brake, power steering and radiator fluids. Participants will be taught how to perform basic tasks, including checking air pressure and tire treads and putting on a spare tire.

TAX PREPARERS NEEDED
FOR UNITED WAY PROGRAM
United Way of Southern Nevada needs more than 400 volunteers for its Earn It Keep It Save It collaborative, which provides complimentary tax preparation to low-to-moderate income families, individuals and seniors.
Volunteers are needed through April 17 to serve as tax preparers, greeters, quality reviewers and site coordinators. Those donating their time will receive tax law and e-file training and IRS certification at convenient training locations throughout Southern Nevada.

WALK AROUND NEVADA
WITHOUT LEAVING TOWN
The Southern Nevada Health District is offering the Walk Around Nevada program, which helps participants track their physical activity online as they trek around the state and clock in 1,442 miles.
Anyone can sign up for this free online program and start a tour of Nevada. Track mileage online via a red line that marks your tour of the state. It also offers tips about staying hydrated, stretching and healthful hiking basics.
Walk Around Nevada maps include the entire state, a Lake Mead map and a Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake map.
