Inaugural Downtown Urban Living Tour Debuts May 2

The Downtown Urban Living Tour launches its first event May 2 from 6 to 9:30 p.m.

Conceived and sponsored by juhl, Streamline Tower, Newport Lofts and Newland Communities, the free Urban Living Tour invites the public to experience the downtown area's culture and entertainment offerings.

Encompassing the Arts District and First Friday Festival, the casino district, entertainment district, and the communities of juhl, Union Park, Streamline Tower and Newport Lofts, the Urban Living Tour will allow participants to experience diverse entertainment and living venues up close and personal. Numerous downtown nightclubs, restaurants, bars, and art galleries will offer participants exclusive perks and shopping opportunities, according to tour planners.

The perks will include free entertainment, drink and dining specials, in addition to exclusive art gallery discounts, promoters said. The evening will also include guided shuttle bus transportation taking revelers to various points of interest. Transportation tour guides will familiarize people with existing downtown landmarks and new hot spots, while also providing information on projects under development.

The communities of juhl, Streamline Tower and Newport Lofts will offer complimentary wine tasting and live music throughout the evening, tour planners said.

Anyone interested in taking the tour is asked to arrive at 6 p.m. at the Celebrity Nightclub, located at the corner of Third Street and Ogden Avenue. The first scheduled event is Mayor Oscar Goodman making opening remarks. The Celebrity Nightclub will offer live music and drink specials as tour participants receive their badges and maps before embarking on busses.

John Eisele, sales manager for juhl, predicted the Urban Living Tour will build momentum for the continuing rejuvenation of downtown. Eisele said organizers plan to offer the free tour on a quarterly basis.

"This evening will be a remarkable event for everyone involved. We will have live music playing and complimentary wine tasting throughout the evening and we will be connecting people to venues, urban living communities and arenas of entertainment and art that are certain to lift their spirits and open their eyes to the 'once dream' that is now becoming a reality," Eisele said.

Those interested in participating are asked to contact the juhl sales studio at 853-1853. The tour is free but capacity is limited, Eisele said.
