Is it “.Vegas” or “.ClarkCounty”?

I don't have a dog in the fight, but it's been interesting to see two companies scrap over who ought to get the right to apply for a new Internet suffix ".vegas". The city of Las Vegas has backed one company; Clark County has endorsed another. Using my famous grasp of the obvious, good old boy politics are at play. I only wonder why Clark County would have anything to say about the city suffix ".vegas"? " anymore than, say, UMC or the water district or BLM would have a say in it.
