Jessica Sferrazza named as president of Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities

Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities names Jessica Sferrazza new President. Here's the statement from the organization:

"Reno City Council member Jessica Sferrazza was installed as the new President of the Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities during the League’s Annual Conference in Henderson, Nevada. The membership is comprised of Nevada's city government officials and represents 24 cities and towns. The Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities was founded in 1959 and is a nonpartisan, nonprofit corporation.

'The downturn in the economy presents many new pressures and challenges to local governments,' said Sferrazza, 'It is very important we work together with our communities and with our state legislators to find solutions. I’m honored to play a leadership role in accomplishing this.'

Sferrazza has played an active role in the League since the year 2000 when she was first elected to the Ward 3 seat on the Reno City Council. Over the past year, she served as the 1st Vice President to League. She was also one of 45 elected officials to serve in a national capacity on the Public Safety and Crime Prevention Committee for the National League of Cities, which passed a resolution opposing the transportation of nuclear waste to Yucca Mountain.

Other members installed during the organization’s 50th Annual Conference in Henderson, Nevada include: 1st Vice President, David Bennett, Mesquite City Council; 2nd Vice President, Susan Holecheck, Mayor of Mesquite; 3rd Vice President, Gene Brockman, Incline Village Board of Trustees; Secretary/Treasurer, Steve Ross, Las Vegas City Council and Immediate Past President, Mike Franzioa, Mayor of Elko."
