Las Vegas internet rankings for July

Size does matter so here are the July internet rankings by Hitwise, an independent subscription service that measures the actual web traffic of 10 million U.S. computers. This month, I've included for your reading pleasure all of Nevada, instead of just Las Vegas. As you will note, the result as to which site is the undisputed market leader in Las Vegas and Nevada remains one in the same -- undisputed and uncontested.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal is No. 1. The Reno newspaper trails in a distant second place, which in turn is clearly separated from a pack of third-tier websites.  The numbers below are for the full month of July and don't vary much in market share order and magnitude from June or May.

No. 1 -- Las Vegas Review-Journal (186th largest audience of all news and media website in America).

        No. 2. -- Reno Gazette-Journal (561)

        No. 3. -- Sun (936)
        No. 4. -- CBS Channel 8 (1171)
        No. 5. -- NBC Channel 3 (1430)
        No. 6. -- Fox News Channel 5 (1551)
        No. 7. -- Carson City Appeal (1668)
        No. 8. -- ABC Channel 13 (2007)

One final note: It has come to my attention that the agitated management du jour at the Las Vegas Sun have told inquiring worker bees to "pay no attention" to these reports that show them slipping farther and farther down the market-share pie. Based on the last daily Hitwise snapshot of the flowing river of internet audience, the Sun might want to stop trying to catch the Review-Journal and start looking over their shoulders at Channel 8 and Channel 5. Both television stations on given days can outperform the Sun. So, if the Sun hates explaining why they're not really a distant No. 3 in the market, they're gonna absolutely despise explaining No. 5.
