Summerlin, a master-planned community well-known for its recreational amenities, has added one of the state's largest athletic facilities to its list of offerings. Life Time Athletic in May opened a 200,000-plus-square-foot facility at 10721 W. Charleston Blvd. in Summerlin Centre. Its the first Life Time Athletic in Nevada.
The facility offers more than 100 fitness classes weekly; more than 400 pieces of state-of-the-art cardio, resistance and free-weight training equipment; a dedicated Pilates studio; a 50-foot rock-climbing wall; full-size basketball and volleyball courts and a 7,000-square-foot childcare center.
It also has a large indoor and outdoor aquatic area with a two-story outdoor waterslide, zero-depth entry recreational pools, lap pools and children's interactive play areas.
Life Time Athletic is staffed by a team of certified personal trainers and registered dieticians to help members achieve maximum health results.
"Life Time Athletic has created a unique environment to help its members achieve their health and fitness goals," said Ray Haizlip, general manager . "We deliver an incredible array of sports and athletics, family recreation and entertainment, spa services and amenities, certified experts and comprehensive programs. It's not just a room full of equipment, similar to other health clubs. We offer a healthy way of life for all members, regardless of their age, interests and current fitness level."
According to Haizlip, opening Life Time in Summerlin was a well-planned strategic move for the corporation, which operates 92 centers in 21 states and 26 major markets.
"We carefully consider the population and demographics of an area to determine the best locations for our centers," he said. "Summerlin's active, family-minded and established population, accompanied with its strong demographics, makes it the ideal community for our first Nevada location."
"Having a nationally recognized fitness center of this caliber in the heart of our community is another feather in Summerlin's cap," said Kevin Orrock, executive vice president of master-planned communities for The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin. "We welcome them to the community and wish them great success."
Other community amenities include more than 150 miles of trails, more than 150 parks, 24 playgrounds, 16 tennis courts, 15 baseball/softball/T-ball fields, 11 basketball courts, three sand volleyball courts, four interactive water features, three community pools, a football field and roller rink.
The community is also home to 24-Hour Fitness Agassi Super Sport, the first facility to bear the tennis star's name. Andre Agassi is one of Summerlin's most famous residents.
"Recreation is a Summerlin hallmark," Orrock said. "There isn't another community in the state that comes close to offering the volume of recreational amenities and opportunities as Summerlin. And that's something to brag about."
