Literature inspires lattes at Bad Owl Coffee

It didn’t take long for Bad Owl Coffee to cast its spell on the Henderson community.
From its Platform 9¾ entrance to the spell-written tables, walking in the doors is like leaving the warm Las Vegas sun for a darkened, whimsical cafe in Hogwarts.
Opened in February by owners Bailey Cheng and Yuko Kono, the Harry Potter-themed coffeehouse serves a variety of coffees, espressos, teas and specialty brews. Through the magic of the internet, crowds formed a line out the door on opening day to try the infamous Butter Brew Latte, a nod to the books’ Butterbeer beverage. Even weeks later, it’s still difficult to get a cup due to high demands and ingredient shortages.
Other drinks include nitrogen brewed iced coffee; Kyoto, a Japanese coffee brewed for about 16 hours; a White Forest latte (black cherry and creamy white mocha); and a Malty Apple tea (black tea with hints of gala apples, white peaches and cinnamon).
Inspired by Cheng’s passion for baking, brews such as the Lavender and Butter Brew lattes are translations from her lavender cheesecake and butterscotch cakes. The cafe also serves pastries, including muffins, bear claws and croissants. The menu is expected to expand to include breakfast and lunch items.
With limited seating space, the cafe at 10575 S. Eastern Ave., Suite 160, can easily become crowded when a line forms. So when it gets a little overwhelming, just breathe and remember: “Wizards welcome. Muggles tolerated.”
Bad Owl Coffee is open from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday; and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
