Mom forced to have C-section sues hospital

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A woman who went to federal court in an attempt to avoid a fourth cesarean section has delivered her son after agreeing to the procedure.

The News-Press of Fort Myers (http://newspr.es/1rMxrG3 ) reports 29-year-old Jennifer Goodall went into labor on Friday and delivered the child at Cape Coral Hospital. A judge earlier this month sided with Bayfront Health Port Charlotte, where an ethics panel had deemed Goodall’s request to have a vaginal birth after three previous cesarean sections too risky.

Goodall’s supporters collected more than 6,000 names for a petition urging the hospital to reconsider its C-section policy.

In a statement, the hospital said Bayfront supports the right of women to have VBAC’s when medically appropriate. Doctors say they can be risky for certain mothers, especially after multiple cesareans.
