MOVIES: Reno indie invades Las Vegas — for one night only
Reno calls itself the "biggest little city in the world," thereby providing an appropriate setting for a big little movie that could: “Unbeatable Harold,” an independent that makes its one-night-only Vegas debut Monday, June 15.
Gordon Michaels (who also adapted Randy Noojin’s one-act play) stars as the title character, a lovable loser who idolizes Elvis (right down to his sideburns), drives a beat-up ’59 Cadillac, dreams of becoming a full-time manager at the Wagontrain Steakhouse where he works — and meets Wanda (Nicole DeHuff), the girl of his dreams, after a night at the penny slots.
Too bad Wanda’s ’80s rocker boyfriend (Dylan McDermott) has followed her from Las Vegas hoping for another chance — while Harold’s hoping for a happy ending.
Charles Durning, Henry Winkler, Phyllis Diller and Las Vegas’ own Gladys Knight co-star for director Ari Palitz, whose Nevada connections also include a producing stint on the poker comedy “The Grand.”
“Unbeatable Harold” has played the Palm Beach and USA film festivals and HBO U.S. Comedy arts festivals; it won best comedy at the Detroit Windsor Film Festival.
The movie screens at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Rave Motion Pictures’ Town Square multiplex; tickets are available at the box office. For more information, click on www.UnbeatableHarold.com.
