GOLF TOURNAMENT SET TO BENEFIT
THE BLIND CENTER

A glow ball nighttime golf tournament is set for 6 p.m. Friday at Silverstone Golf Club, 8600 Cupp Drive, with a shotgun start at 7:30 p.m. After the four-person scramble play, a raffle and awards ceremony is planned. OPEN HOUSE PLANNED, VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Volunteers are needed for a public open house in honor of Lady Di Talks, a North Las Vegas-based nonprofit that works toward young women empowerment, planned for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 1125 Miller Ave.

Mentor Diane "Lady Di" Boles leads weekly faith-based "common sense talk groups" for young women ages 12 to 18.

The open house is a free public event. Refreshments are to be served. Volunteers are needed to staff the event.

WOMEN'S FULL-CONTACT FOOTBALL TEAM NEEDS DONATIONS

Donations are needed to help send five players from the Silver State Legacy women's full-contact football team to play in the All American Game Saturday at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

FORECLOSED UPON PETS NEEDS FOSTER FAMILIES

Foreclosed Upon Pets Inc. needs foster families for dogs and cats that have been relinquished by owners, left in foreclosed homes, found on the street or need a new home when the owner dies or is deployed.

Fostering usually involves short-term stints, typically ranging from a few weeks to a few months. Assistance is given to foster families, if needed, in the way of food, toys, medicine and veterinary care.

FUPI does its best to match foster families with a short-term companion that suits their lifestyle.

Foster families increase an animal's chance of being adopted by providing feedback on the temperament, activity level and likes and dislikes.

ANIMAL FOUNDATION SEEKING
DONATED LINENS

Nonprofit The Animal Foundation, 655 N. Mojave Road, one of Nevada's largest open-admission animal shelters and pet adoption centers, is seeking donations of new and gently used linens, including: towels, blankets, sheets, pillowcases, T-shirts and sweatshirts.

During summer, The Animal Foundation receives more than 100 animals per day.

Donated linens are used to make the animals more comfortable and to keep the young and underweight animals warm.

Due to the cleaning procedures for donated linens, items must be washed in a high bleach-to-water concentration, which breaks down materials quickly.

Additionally, once an item has been torn, it cannot be used again. Items with stuffing (comforters, pillows, dog beds, etc.) can only be used once as they cannot be completely disinfected.

Linens can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily at the shelter. For more information, visit animalfoundation.com.

BENCH BUILDING CLASS PLANNED

Space is available for a bench building workshop Aug. 13-30 at Wood It Is!, 2267 W. Gowan Road.

SPRING MOUNTAINS NIGHT HIKES PLANNED

Explore the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, also known as Mount Charleston, with free interpretive hikes.

n A night hike discussing wildlife adaptations after dark is planned for 8 p.m. each Friday, beginning at the McWilliams Campground host site.

n A Junior Ranger program to test youngsters' hiking and fire-safety knowledge and expand stewardship and research skills is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Spring Mountains Visitor Center.

n Guided hikes through the Lower Bristlecone area and the Fletcher Canyon Trail are planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Spring Mountains Visitor Center.

n Campfire programs are planned for 8 p.m. each Saturday at the Hilltop Campground. Due to limited parking, the program is recommended for campground guests only.

The programs are made possible through a partnership between the U.S. Forest Service, the Basin Institute, and the Southern Nevada Conservancy.

YOUTH CAMP OPENINGS FILLING FAST

Time is running out to register for University of Nevada Cooperative Extension's summer Science, Technology, Engineering and Math day camp, scheduled from Aug. 14-18.

The camp is open to youths 7 to 11. It includes activities in plant and animal sciences, health and nutrition, computer science, robotics and rocketry.

The Lifelong Learning Center is at 8050 Paradise Road. The cost is $90 and includes daily lunch, snacks and activities. Sibling registration is $60. Previous 4-H participation is not required.

SHOOTING COMPLEX HOSTS NIGHT SHOOT

Take aim under the stars during night shooting planned until 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday nights through Sept. 27 at all ranges of the Clark County Shooting Complex, 11357 N. Decatur Blvd.

Public shooting other days is as follows: Rifle-Pistol Range is open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday; Shotgun and Archery Ranges are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

NEW BILLING SYSTEM IN PLACE
FOR CITY UTILITIES USERS

City of North Las Vegas utilities users can now set up electronic billing.

The free service aims to be an easy, cost-effective and environmentally friendly service. It is part of the city's greeNLV initiative.

Once subscribed, users are to be notified by email when the utility bill is ready for viewing.

Information provided to the Utilities Department is not be released for any purpose other than the E-Bill process. All utility bills will be electronically generated every month, and paper bills will no longer be mailed.

The Southern Nevada Health District has reported 22 cases of pertussis, or whooping cough, since January. Seven have occurred in children younger than 1 year. YMCA TO EXTEND FEDERAL LUNCH SERVICE

SkyView Multi-generational Center YMCA is one of three YMCA of Southern Nevada locations to participate in a summer food service program, a continuation of The National School Lunch Program, this summer.

The federally assisted meal program provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to students.

Youths younger than 19 can receive a free lunch Monday through Friday through Aug. 24 at 3050 E. Centennial Parkway.

The Durango Hills Community Center YMCA, 3521 N. Durango Drive, and the Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane, are also to participate in the program.

VALLEY'S LARGEST MIXER
IN NEED OF EXHIBITORS

Exhibitors are needed for Las Vegas' Largest Mixer VIII planned for 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 19 at Texas Station, 2101 Texas Star Lane.

Businesses are invited to display on one 5-foot-deep by 8-foot-wide exhibit space at the large-scale event.

More than 100 exhibitors participated last year, and tickets for the more than 1,500 attendees sold out two weeks before the event, organizers said.
