TRAVEL CLUB TO MEET AT TAP HOUSE

The Las Vegas Singles Travel and Social Club invites mature adults to its meetings, which are scheduled for 7 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Tap House, 5589 W. Charleston Blvd. The next meeting is set for May 28 and will feature the topic “Cruising to and from Hawaii.”

The meet-and-greet portion is set to start at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room. Discussions focus on day trips, local events, in-state and out-of-state traveling, cruises and international traveling. HOUSING SYMPOSIUM PLANNED

JUNE 4 FOR CITY COUNCIL ELECTION

The North Las Vegas City Clerk’s office, 2250 Las Vegas Blvd. North, encourages residents to vote in a municipal general election for City Council slated for June 4. Early voting and in-office voting for registered Ward 1 residents is set to take place from 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. at the City Clerk’s office through May 31. Registered Ward 1 voters can also visit the city’s permanent early voting site at City Hall, 2250 Las Vegas Blvd. North, or one of several neighborhood voting sites during the two-week period. Off-site early voting locations are the Neighborhood Recreation Center, 1638 N. Bruce St.; SkyView Multi-Generational Center, 3050 E. Centennial Parkway; Food 4 Less; Lowe’s; and the North Las Vegas Main Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive.

MEET COUNTY JUDGES EVENT SLATED
FOR AUG. 17 at canyon springs

Veterans In Politics plans to host a Meet Your Clark County District Judges event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 17 at Canyon Springs High School, 350 E. Alexander Road.

The event aims to educate voters in advance of the 2014 Clark County general election and improve access to the county judicial system through a Shadow a Judge For a Day program for Canyon Springs High School students.

Students will look to share their judge-shadowing experiences before joining a moderated discussion set to include more than a dozen judges from Clark County’s civil, criminal and family justice departments.

Face the World Foundation is registering volunteer host families for the fall semester of high school. BUILDING DEPARTMENTS ANNOUNCE RESIDENTIAL AMNESTY PROGRAM

Southern Nevada building departments are encouraging homeowners to participate in an amnesty program for May that waives penalties on self-disclosed residential construction work done without permits. During the amnesty period, which coincides with Building Safety Month, homeowners in Clark County and the cities of North Las Vegas, Henderson, Las Vegas, Mesquite and Boulder City will be subject to paying normal fees for permits, inspections and plan reviews but not penalties. Fees for residential-related construction range from $60 to more than $400, depending on the project. The Residential Amnesty Program allows homeowners to obtain permits without penalties for work performed on a variety of projects. Homeowners should check with their local building department for specific allowances and permitting requirements. Please note that all other fees, permits and costs associated with the issuance of a building or other permit shall remain in effect during the residential amnesty period.

To apply for the Residential Amnesty Program, a homeowner must first contact the building department in the jurisdiction in which the home is located to obtain the necessary permit forms and fees. As part of the Residential Amnesty Program, the homeowner must also take part in a five-minute educational training session regarding the building permit process and importance of obtaining those permits. Applications for the Residential Amnesty Program should be submitted to the Building Department for the homeowner’s jurisdiction. The Residential Amnesty Program must reflect work that is permitted under current code or was allowed under the code of record at the time of installation. CAMP THAT REUNITES SIBLINGS IN FOSTER CARE SEEKS DONATIONS

Camp To Belong Nevada, which reunites siblings who are apart due to foster care, is in need of donations from the public for its summer camp program. Camper supplies such as water bottles, flashlights and cans of Gatorade powder are needed.
