November’s a proxy fight for Nevada’s future

President Barack Obama has already told Americans — twice — that the November mid-term elections are a referendum on his policies.

This new ABC poll is a good indication there are a wide variety of issues that bug voters that “reflect a broader sense of worry about key issues the country faces and its ability to deal with them.”

So how does that translate to Nevada? I think a reasonable way to look at it — since neither President Obama or his biggest fan, Sen. Harry Reid, are on the ballot — is to look at the lieutenant governor’s race.

There we see a hand-picked candidate from Sen. Reid (Lucy Flores) against a hand-picked candidate from Gov. Brian Sandoval (Mark Hutchison).

This race is a proxy fight for the future of Nevada. Will the state be led by Barack Obama/Harry Reid types or will it be lead by Brian Sandoval types.

To add to the stakes, there is the very real possibility that if Hutchison wins that will free Sandoval to exit the governorship mid-term and try to knock off Reid in 2016.

So, if Nevadans are looking for a good reason to vote in November, look no further than Reid. Just as President Obama says his policies are on the ballot, so is Harry Reid.

If you’re happy with the way the country is going, with Barack Obama and Sen. Reid, vote Lucy Flores.

If you are not happy, vote for Mark Hutchison.
