Members of Congress spend so much time raising money that individuals develop their own styles, the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Calls reports this morning.
For instance, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., prefers to meet with lobbyists at breakfast events, where several regular attendees said he has perfected the "dine and dash."
Roll Call said Reid, a "shy teetotaler," usually schedules the events for 7:45 a.m., spends 45 minutes with guests. "and then heads for the door."
With all manner of lobbyists eager for some face time with the Senate majority leader, Reid "can afford to be picky" about his time, the paper said. On the other hand, Reid has set an ambitious $25 million fundraising goal for re-election that has made fundraising a regular part of his routine.
