Pardee donates to Shade Tree shelter
The simple needs of The Shade Tree shelter for women and children in crisis inspired the employees of Pardee Homes in Southern Nevada once again support the shelter during the holiday season, providing necessary supplies, gifts and gift cards totaling $3,000.
"It would have been impossible to continue without the support of long-term partners such as Pardee Homes as well as new partners, especially during these past four years when we've been at capacity each and every day," said Marlene Richter, executive director, The Shade Tree. "Pardee has touched more lives than we could ever count through its ongoing support."
According to Pardee Homes Southern Nevada Division President Klif Andrews, Pardee has provided about $100,000 in support of The Shade Tree mission since 1994, an effort that is a part of the company's long tradition of helping the homeless in our community.
"As the longest established homebuilder in Southern Nevada, we understand our role in this community and giving back through financial and volunteer resources is an important part of our company philosophy," Andrews said.
The Shade Tree has 364 beds and served 4,200 families last year, 700 more than the prior year. On average, 15 new families arrive each day including some with newborn infants.
"To have all of the basic necessities here when families arrive makes them feel safe and gives them hope after they have left everything behind," Richter said. "We appreciate the employees of Pardee taking time to buy the things we need as our needs are great at the holidays and every day."
Located in downtown Las Vegas at the corner of Main Street and Owens Avenue, The Shade Tree is Clark County's only 24-hour accessible emergency shelter for women and mothers with children.
The largest shelter of its kind in the state, the 38,000-square-foot facility offers services such as victim services center, job skills development, housing placement assistance, mental health coordination, free health clinic and children's activity center, in addition to Noah's Animal House for family pets from abusive households.
