Parker claims second 2009 WSOP event title

Brock Parker became the first player this year to win two events at the World Series of Poker.

Parker, 27, from Silver Spring, Md., won the $2,500 buy-in Six-Handed no-limit hold’em event Wednesday night at the Rio.

The victory followed a win last week in the $2,500 buy-in Six-Handed limit hold’em event.

Wednesday’s win was worth $552,745 while last week’s victory earned Parker $223,697.

The two World Series of Poker individual event champion bracelets are the first he has ever earned in the tournament, which he has entered since 2004.

In his career, Parker has 13 World Series of Poker cashes worth more than $1.04 million.

“I can’t describe this. This is just unreal,” Parker said upon winning his second event in a week. “It actually does not feel real to me.”

With two victories and cash finishes in two other events, Parker is currently the leader in the standings for the 2009 World Series of Poker Player of the Year.

“I want to try for that, for sure,” Parker said. “Especially now that they are making a big deal out of it.”
