Parks at Mountain’s Edge, Providence open this year

The new year is shaping up to be a good one for residents of the two Focus Property Group master-planned communities as they'll have more outdoor and recreational amenities to enjoy with three new parks.

At Mountain's Edge in southwestern Las Vegas, the groundbreaking for Nathaniel Jones Park was held in October. The 20-acre neighborhood park will include a lighted basketball court, tot lot with shade structure, children's water play area with splash pad, turf areas, walking trails and shade structures. Nathaniel Jones Park will be located in the northwestern part of Mountain's Edge with substantial completion of construction expected by fall 2011.

The first phase of the 220-acre Mountain's Edge Regional Park also is moving forward as $8 million in Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act funding was secured by Nevada's Congressional delegation at the request of Clark County Commissioners Susan Brager and Steve Sisolak. The initial 15 acres will feature picnic facilities with open grass play areas, benches, shade structures, drinking fountains, play amenities and restrooms along with parking and 1.5 miles of trails. The park site is bounded by Mountain's Edge Parkway on the north, Durango Drive on the west, Cactus Avenue on the south and open desert on the east.

At the Providence master plan in northwestern Las Vegas, the groundbreaking was just held for Knickerbocker Park, which is scheduled to open in late 2011. The neighborhood park will include a splash pad, tot lots, dog park, multiuse events field, youth baseball field, jogging path with exercise stations, picnic areas and designated spaces for future amenities. Knickerbocker Park is located at the southeast corner of Shaumber Road and Dorrell Lane.

All the parks follow Focus Property Group's philosophy to offer community residents many avenues for fitness and outdoor recreation with a commitment to protecting the natural desert environment with drought-tolerant landscaping and incorporating its beauty.

In addition, the master-planned communities offer a variety of floor plans, home builders, convenient locations and other outdoor amenities, such as miles of trail systems.

Mountain's Edge and Providence have been listed as the fastest-selling communities in Nevada by industry reports. They are also among the five best-selling master plans in the country, according to RCLCO, a leading independent real estate advisory firm.

As with all large regional parks, the Mountain's Edge Regional Park will require various funding sources, which haven't been identified, and full build-out is expected to take years, particularly given the state of the local economy. Upon completion, it is expected to include a regional center, cultural center, skate park, performing arts amphitheatre, festival area, multiuse sports fields, practice softball and baseball fields, playground and spray feature and enhanced picnic amenities with additional parking facilities.

Mountain's Edge home builders include Amstar Homes, Beazer Homes, Camden Homes, Discovery Homes, Harmony Homes, KB Home, Lennar, Meritage Homes, Pardee Homes, Pulte Homes, Richmond American Homes, Ryland Homes, StoryBook Homes, William Lyon Homes and Woodside Homes.

Providence home builders include Beazer Homes, KB Home, Lennar, Meritage Homes, Richmond American Homes, R/S Development, Ryland Homes, Warmington and Woodside Homes.

Many are offering special programs and incentives for home buyers.
