People of all ages can love the night life in Henderson

With Las Vegas reaching triple-digit temperatures during the day, finding daytime activities and events seems fruitless.

But venues around Henderson offer night life to residents who are looking for ventures.

The new location of King Putt Entertainment Center, 27 S. Stephanie St., opened in Henderson about two months ago. Its former Henderson-area location was at 9230 S. Eastern Ave.

"In Henderson, it is definitely scarce on family-friendly entertainment," said Jeff Swanlund, owner of King Putt. "If you want to drive a little further you might find some things. But the prices might be higher."

When opening King Putt, Swanlund wanted to offer an amenity the entire community could enjoy regardless of age.

"So far, we've had a good welcome," Swanlund said. "It has exceeded my expectations."

King Putt offers miniature golf, laser tag, an arcade, a pizza kitchen and party rooms.

"It is our largest course with 18 holes," Swanlund said. "We have a large arcade. We actually splurged on it and got new, fancy games. They are the coolest games on the market."

As the name suggests, miniature golf is the main attraction.

"We built the course to use the most animatronics," Swanlund said. "The most popular is our black light indoor mini golf."

King Putt is open from 2 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 1 a.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

"We want to encourage people to stay longer and occupy the entire evening," Swanlund said.

Because he is in his mid-20s, Swanlund thought it was important to offer people around his age another nighttime option.

"A lot of my friends want an option at night where we don't have to drink," Swanlund said.

Jazz, blues and karaoke

Henderson restaurants and lounges have been offering entertainment options for customers.

E-String Grill & Poker Bar, 2031 W. Sunset Road, offers a mixture of karaoke and live music depending on the night.

Chris Trauth, general manager of E-String, said the establishment's options hit all demographics.

People can hear jazz bands at 2 p.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m. Mondays and blues music at 8 p.m. Wednesdays. E-String has offered rock 'n' roll bands, too.

"Crowd sizes vary," Trauth said. "Sometimes we have been packed out, and sometimes we have had a medium crowd."

Depending on the band, admission ranges from $10 to no cover charge.

E-String also offers various hours for karaoke. Karaoke is scheduled for midnight Mondays and Wednesdays, 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

"It's kind of a crazy schedule," Trauth said.

Trauth added that the midnight karaoke option has gone over well with people who work later shifts.

"And we have a music stage while other places might stick you in a corner," Trauth said.

Other than it being 21 or older at the bar, which is in a separate room, the restaurant and music are open to all ages.

"Except after curfew, when it's 18 and older," Trauth said.

Curfew is 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight Friday, Saturday, legal holidays and during summer vacation.

Family-friendly fun

The District at Green Valley Ranch, 2240 Village Walk Drive, offers a variety of night-life activities with free concerts and movie screenings.

"We get positive comments from merchants, guests and residents every week," said Jen Olewinski, president of Olewinski Group, which does marketing for The District. "Free, live entertainment adds to the entire experience at The District."

On Friday and Saturday nights, free music is offered on Main Street.

"We wanted to breathe new life into the live music program this year by tapping into a new talent pool for the most part," Olewinski said. "We selected bands for the shows based on talent, song quality, reliability and a band's ability to perform in a family-friendly environment."

For The District, Olewinski wanted to offer a venue that the entire family could experience.

"Lots of rooms in town are 21-plus or are smoky bars, neither of which are family-friendly," Olewinski said. "Bands love for their children and older family members to get a chance to see and hear them get their groove on."

Olewinski said crowds continue to enjoy the music.

"The crowd engagement varies from band to band, act to act and song to song," Olewinski said. "Overall, the audiences have been very receptive."

At the east part of The District on The Green next to Whole Foods Market, free movies are offered at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays as part of the Outdoor Picture Show. All movies are expected to be family-friendly.

The Village at Lake Las Vegas, 30 Strada Di Villaggio, hosts concerts lakeside from 7 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The concert series, which features a collection of bands from different genres, is free and expected to run until Oct. 27. For more information, visit lakelasvegasevents.com.

For adults only

Many Henderson-area casinos and hotels also offer night life options.

The South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South, has ongoing bands throughout the week. Starting at 6 p.m. Wednesdays, the show and dance band Deja Vu plays anything from disco to Amy Winehouse.

Armed with a nerdy get-up and hairstyles honoring the '80s, the Spazmatics play at 10 p.m. Saturdays.

At 10:30 p.m. Fridays, classic rock band Yellow Brick Road performs crowd favorites such as Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.

These events are $5 and open to adults 21 or older.

South Point also has a free option for night life. Wes Winters, a pianist and singer, performs from 6 to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Ovation Lounge inside Green Valley Ranch Resort, 2300 Paseo Verde Parkway, has a selection of nightlife options for adults 21 or older.

Michael Grimm, winner of season five of "America's Got Talent," performs at 8 p.m. Saturdays. The cover charge is $5.

Ovation also rotates through bands each Thursday. At 9 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month, Loophole is scheduled to perform. The Lon Bronson All-Star Band, a rock, soul and funk band, is set to perform at 9 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays, and Guilty Pleasures, a '70s and '80s rock band, is scheduled for 8 p.m. the third Thursday.

Adding to the nighttime scene, Quinn's Irish Pub inside Green Valley Ranch Resort features Darby O'Gill and the Little People from 9 p.m. to midnight Thursdays and 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturdays. Speed is scheduled from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Fridays.

Quinn's also offers Pub Trivia, where teams compete by answering a series of questions, at 7 p.m. Tuesdays and karaoke at 7 p.m. Wednesdays.
