Police investigating possible suicide at Phoenix airport

Phoenix police said they believe a man jumped to his death at Phoenix-Sky Harbor International Airport on Tuesday morning.

The man’s body was found on Sky Harbor Boulevard near Terminal 3 about 6:15 a.m., Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump said.

Police said they believe the man jumped from the top of the parking garage outside the terminal.

The eastbound out lanes north of Terminal 3 were closed and traffic was being diverted through the inner curb lanes.

Traffic entering the airport from the west was backed up, and motorists were urged to enter from the east using 44th Street, State Route 143 or Loop 202, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Complicating matters early was a collision blocking the left side of the Interstate 10 off-ramp at State Route 143.

Traffic was slow on I-10, Loop 101 North and the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway.

Air travelers were encouraged to leave early to accommodate the extra time it will take to get to their flights on time.

No other information was available.
