Retired teachers get some respect – a free lunch!

When Jenny Kucan and her friends decided to organize a luncheon to honor retired public schoolteachers nearly a decade ago, it seemed like a simple idea at the time. After enjoying a corporate sponsorship for many years, the group has again scrambled for a site for its annual gathering.

Fortunately, the Nellis Air Force Base Officers' Club has been made available for the June 9 luncheon. The group has received help from Mayor Oscar Goodman and other politicians, who obviously see the value of the gathering.

Mary Rector is the chair of the Retiring Teachers Appreciation Luncheon this year, and she notes that all retired teachers are welcome. (She may be reached via InterAct.) Because of security concerns at Nellis, participants must RSVP at rtal@hotmail.com by May 23.
