Rhodes Homes supports elementary school

Rhodes Ranch Golf Club recently hosted the fifth annual Friends of Tanaka Elementary School Golf Tournament to benefit the school in the southwestern valley.

The proceeds from the April 26 charity event will provide funds for instructional materials, training programs, appreciation luncheons, staff development and also finance the Golden Dragon Awards, which provide recognition for teachers, students and parents.

"We are proud supporters of this event," said Glynda Rhodes, vice president of architecture and design for Rhodes Homes. "Over the past five years, we've participated in several different capacities from discounted green fees, to banner sponsor and even providing golf certificates for the raffle. This event is a great way to give back to the community and to support Tanaka Elementary, where many of the children who live in Rhodes Ranch attend school."

"The mission of Tanaka Elementary School is to work together on our journey to success where everything we learn will help us be our best," said Wayne Tanaka, tournament co-chair and the school's namesake. "We are very fortunate to have great community partners, like Rhodes Homes, who share this vision and help us achieve it through their generous contributions to our event."

The tournament featured a four-person scramble format. Along with team trophies for the lowest net and gross scores, individual trophies were given for the longest drive and closest-to-the-hole drive for both men and women. The tournament raised more than $10,000 through the sale of sponsorships, raffle prizes and entry fees.

Proceeds from past tournaments and individual donations have enabled the nonprofit Friends of Tanaka Elementary School to provide more than $40,000 to the school over the last four years.

"Additionally, the funds raised from our annual golf tournament have enabled us to purchase such items as picnic tables for the school's courtyard, science kits, musical instruments, ethnic performances, and a Hall of Fame Honor Wall for students, parents, teachers, and staff," Tanaka said.

The golf tournament proceeds will continue to be used to expand or enhance programs initiated by Principal Karen Patton.

The Rhodes Ranch Golf Club was designed by renowned golf-course architect Ted Robinson. The par-72 course, noted for its tropical landscaping, was named a Best Value by Vegas Golfer magazine.
