Rumors of announcement by Amodei making the circuit

Word on the Internet is state Sen. Mark Amodei, R-Carson City, is expected to announce a campaign for the U.S. Senate seat occupied by Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., on Wednesday in downtown Las Vegas with an afternoon announcement up north. Nothing official yet, though.

Amodei would be facing Republican Danny Tarkanian of Las Vegas and potential candidate Sue Lowden, who is openly considering a run, as the biggest name candidates on the Republican side of this race.

Rep. Dean Heller, R-Nev., has said he won't challenge Reid, to the chagrin of national Republican leaders who recruited him.

Channel 13 in Las Vegas says it has, "some reports" of Amodei's plans.
