Organizers expect about 600 participants in the third annual Summerlin Half Marathon, which is to be held April 16.
The 13.1-mile course begins at 7 a.m. at JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa and sends participants along a village trail connecting The Canyons with The Hills South villages. The course leads to the trail parallel to Rampart Boulevard and turns north. It’s a slow incline for about 1 mile before runners and walkers head west, along the Hillpointe Road trail.
The course runs through the Trails and Trails Paseo parks and then turns south through The Crossing and The Arbors villages. Then it’s east through the 70-acre Cottonwood Canyon Park.
“Runners and walkers in this half-marathon get a taste of the amazing landscape and outdoor amenities that make up Summerlin,” said Danielle Bisterfeldt, marketing director for Summerlin.
The event is a chip-timed run/walk. Recognition will be awarded to the top male and female finishers in varying age groups; all participants receive medals and shirts. To register , view the course map at www.desertskyadventures.com/summerlin2013. Registration is $85 per person. Online registration ends at 11:59 p.m. Thursday.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Lili Claire Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports families of children with neurological disorders.
