Sandoval, Reid to debate education

Gubernatorial candidates Rory Reid and Brian Sandoval have agreed to a 60 minute debate on education to be held Aug. 29 and broadcast on statewide television and streamed live on the Internet.

The Democrat Reid and Republican Sandoval each have presented education plans and acknowledge Nevada schools fall well short of expectations, but don't agree on the best ways to improve student performance.

Debate organizers include 8 News Now, the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Vegas PBS and the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education. It will be held Sunday, Aug. 29 at 6 p.m.

It will be broadcast live on 8 News Now and Vegas PBS in Las Vegas and on KTVN, Channel 2 and KNPB, Channel 5 in Reno. The debate will also be streamed live on 8NewsNow.com and the Review-Journal website at lvrj.com. Subject matter will cover k-12 and higher education.

The debate is important for each campaign as it will be on statewide television between the news and 60 Minutes, a time slot that is likely to include a high number of active and engaged voters in the viewing audience.
