School denies girl field trip for attending mom’s funeral

Too bad about your mom, kid… but that doesn’t mean you should’ve missed school.

That’s essentially what a British school told 11-year-old Maddie Stevens, who was forbidden from attending an end-of-term field trip for having less than 100-percent attendance.

The thing is, Stevens missed one day — to attend her mother’s funeral.

According to U.K.’s Mirror, the girl took one personal day to say goodbye to her mom who, at 48, lost her battle to breast cancer in January.

The school has made no apology to Stevens and has decided to withdraw future awards from all students.
