Senior Energy Assistance Expo set at Cashman Center

Senior citizens seeking help with past-due electric bills are invited the Senior Energy Assistance Expo, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 14 at Cashman Center 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North, Hall A.

Nonprofit and government agencies will be on hand to help seniors pay past-due electric bills, discuss weatherization options, provide free air-conditioning and furnace repair and provide energy education and conservation and rebate information. Information on social services such as food banks, medical and rental assistance also will be provided.

Anyone who has received energy assistance in the previous 12 months is ineligible to receive it at this event. Recipients must be permanent residential customers of NV Energy and 62 or older. Their NV Energy bills must be in their names, and they must live at the address for which assistance is requested.

The maximum award is $500. The maximum annual gross income of recipients’ household must be less than $41,800 for one to two people, $47,050 for three, $52,300 for four, $56,500 for five or $60,650 for six. Larger families’ incomes may be $4,200 more for each additional family member.

Applicants should bring a Nevada driver license or state identification card, a copy of the past-due NV Energy electric bill in need of payment and proof of income or pending income.
