SHOOTING STARS: ‘Deal’ takes a break after today’s Trop stop

The new “Let’s Make a Deal” finally debuts this morning on CBS (9 a.m. on KLAS-TV, Channel 8).
But the hourlong game show has been in production since Sept. 15, so it’s time for a bit of a breather.
That explains why only two shows will tape today at the Tropicana Pavilion — with call times of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for costumed audience members, who have a 1-in-18 chance of becoming contestants. (At least that’s what show officials claim.)
Following today’s two-for-one deal, “Let’s Make a Deal” takes a break; production resumes Oct. 14-18, with call times at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Free tickets for those shows are available by calling the Trop’s “Let’s Make a Deal” information line at (800) 706-8767 or going online to www.cbs.com/daytime/lets_make_a_deal and clicking on “Online Ticketing.”
The time off should come as good news to host Wayne Brady; as colleague Mike Weatherford recently reported, Brady canceled all October performances of his Venetian “Making It Up” show to “give his singing voice a rest.” With this break in the “Deal” action, the rest of him can take a rest too.
‘Pawn’ time: After a weeklong break, History’s hit reality series “Pawn Stars” resumes production, focusing on the adventures of Richard and Rick Harrison, the father-and-son team behind Gold & Silver Pawn. (The show recently set a year-to-date original-series record for the cable channel, attracting 2.9 million viewers.)
Shooting is expected to continue through the month on the 13 remaining episodes in the show’s first season, reports Brent Montgomery, owner of the company that produces “Pawn Stars,” New York-based Leftfield Pictures.
Las Vegas remains fertile ground for reality-based shows, he notes. Leftfield has already filmed a sales tape/demo reel with Rick Dale of Rick’s Restorations (a family-owned, Las Vegas-based antique restoration business) that they’ll pitch to various networks, according to Montgomery.
Other Las Vegas-based shows also are in the works, he says, including one with “another Las Vegas-owned business” he “can’t name yet.”
And if you’ve got an idea for a possible Vegas-based reality show, the folks at Leftfield would welcome an e-mail pitch at LeftfieldLasVegas@gmail.com.
“Red” alert — The folks behind “Red Herring” know they’re making a mystery, but sometimes the production schedule contains as many mysteries as the script.
Just ask writer-producer Joshua Cohen of Cohencidence Productions, who’s been scrambling when the proverbial circumstances beyond his control have prompted the production to shuffle the shooting schedule.
Recently, for example, the production had to reschedule a planned Henderson Executive Airport shoot when a plane to be featured in the movie blew a tire two days earlier, Cohen notes. And Turnberry Place’s Stirling Club wound up as a location when two previous choices for an upscale club didn’t work out — and cast member G. Eric Miles, who lives at Turnberry, suggested the Stirling Club.
“They were nice enough to let us shoot there with only 18 hours’ notice,” Cohen adds.
And cast member Barry Lowin, a Cirque du Soleil performer, had to drop out when he tore his Achilles tendon two days before principal photography began. Tim Tucker stepped in — about 12 hours before shooting started.
“Overall, we’re running into a lot of minidisasters,” Cohen acknowledges, “but we keep seeming to overcome them and get some great footage.”
This week’s locations include a return to the Stirling Club and several private residences, including a multimillion-dollar model home.
At one of those residences, stunt coordinator Rich Hopkins will oversee a gunshot scene with bullet hits — and a fire burn on a stunt performer.
“Taken’s” Holly Valance joins the production this week Vincent Pastore and Bobbi Billard completed their roles last week.
“Supernanny” wrangling: If your kids behave like rival hockey players at home, here’s a suggestion: take them to the Orleans Arena Tuesday night. And we’re not talking about the Las Vegas Wranglers taking on the Ontario Reign on the ice.
Off the ice, the ABC’s “Supernanny” casting team will conduct an open casting call from 6 to 9 p.m.
For the show’s fifth season, producers are looking for teen moms; families with unique interests; parents who have ordinary and extraordinary circumstances; parents with mean girls and/or bullying boys; culturally diverse parents; and blended families where both sides need help.
  If you’re interested but can’t make it to Tuesday’s casting call, telephone (877) 626-6984 or e-mail castingcookie@gmail.com.
Quick hits: Also on this week’s location calendar, a tire commercial is expected to shoot for two or three days at Valley of Fire, and the upcoming reality competition “Face of Vegas” rolls on.
