Smokin’ Notes at Providence

The first Smokin’ Notes jazz and barbecue event will debut April 19 at Providence, a master-planned community in northwestern Las Vegas. The event is free to attend and will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the community’s Knickerbocker Park at 10695 Dorrell Lane. The public is invited to enjoy music, food and other festivities against the backdrop of city views. Smokin’ Notes is presented by Providence, Providence Master Homeowner’s Association and KXPT-FM (97.1) “The Point.”

While barbecue and smoked meats from Smoken Sams are available for purchase at this family-friendly event, participants are welcome to bring picnic baskets and blankets. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome, too.

The Tommy Thompson Project will perform. The local jazz band is a former winner in the Las Vegas Review-Journal Best of Las Vegas poll.

Smokin’ Notes also features a Safety Fair from the Southern Nevada Traffic Safety Coalition. Composed of Southern Nevada emergency entities, the nonprofit organization was created to increase road and pedestrian safety. The Safety Fair will promote Nevada’s Zero Fatality campaign, and includes motorcycle and car safety talks and mounted police display.

Coalition members also will compete in a barbecue sauce-making competition. Event attendees will get to sample the prepared sauces.

A children’s activity area will feature chalk drawing, kid-friendly obstacle course and other crafts.

Youngsters also will enjoy P.D., Providence’s lovable canine mascot, and Knickerbocker Park’s tot lots, swings, splash pad, baseball field and multiuse fields.

Other amenities are jogging paths with exercise stations, dog park for small and large dogs, picnic tables, and the park’s high elevation and design providing a great vantage point of the Las Vegas Valley.
