Sonatas hit right note for friends

You might say that longtime buddies William Paye and John McIntyre are the modern-day version of "Grumpy Old Men," a movie starring Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau.

The colorful individuals not only each drive a 2012 Hyundai Sonata GLS purchased from Planet Hyundai Centennial in the northwest valley, but they also continually tease each other for one thing or another.

Paye is a veteran of the U.S. Army while McIntyre is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

The 75-year-old McIntyre drove his friend to the dealership, 6200 Centennial Center Blvd., after breakfast recently.

Paye purchased his vehicle on a Friday and McIntyre followed suit by buying his car the following Monday.

"This is my fifth Hyundai in a row," said Paye, 67 . "I bought my first one in about 1995. Right from the get-go, I liked the warranty, which I thought was the best in the industry. Since the first one, Hyundai has continued to improve year by year. "I drove more than 70,000 (miles) on the first three vehicles and I have yet to spend one dime on repairs."

McIntyre's purchase was his first Hyundai.

"Truth be known -- and I hate to give him any credit -- William brought me here," McIntyre said. "I like the looks and especially the warranty along with the Hyundai reputation."

In addition, the friends said they each had excellent buying experiences with Planet Hyundai sales consultant David Spence.

"He actually treated us very well and the entire experience was pressure-free," said Paye .

"I don't do well with pressure salesmen and I'll get up and leave, " said McIntyre. "David explained everything and gave us time to think it over before signing."

"I think it's the best-selling car in the country," Paye said. "And if it isn't, it should be."

Both McIntyre and Paye praised the Hyundai warranty package that includes a 10-year, 100,000-mile power train warranty along with a five-year, 60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.

"It's extremely important," McIntyre said. "In my opinion, no other automobile manufacturer comes close to the Hyundai warranty. The fuel efficiency these cars get is also a big deal to me, particularly as expensive as gasoline is getting these days."

Planet Hyundai Centennial operates from a 39,000-square-foot building on five acres near Ann Road and U.S. Highway 95. Also included in the umbrella of Planet Hyundai dealerships is Planet Hyundai Sahara at 7150 W. Sahara Ave just west of Rainbow Boulevard.

Further information can be found by visiting www.planetlv.com or by calling 483-2200 (Centennial) or 938-1400 (Sahara).
