Sources: City-Firefighters reach tentative agreement
Las Vegas Firefighters and city officials have reached a tentative agreement in an effort to offset flagging revenues, informed sources say.
The ink isn't dry, but here's the deal as it stood this morning:
• Firefighters will give up their cost of living increase in 2010.
• They will defer their uniform allowance, saving an estimated $900,000.
• They agree to defer two health care benefits in 2010, saving $432,000.
• They agree to a reduction in the Trustpayment in 2010, a savings of $1.4 million.
• New hires will start with a 5 percent salary reduction.
• Rover positions will increase from 6 percent to 10 percent in an attempt to reduce overtime.
• The city agrees not to seek a Request For Proposal for EMS Services and will halt any plan to privatize paramedic services.
• An additional year is added to the contract with "reopeners" in wages, medical, and clothing allowance.
Total returned to the city in 2011: $2.7 million from fewer than 600 members of Firefighters Local 1285.
Obviously, this is subject to change until the final compromise is reached.
