Summerlin residents enjoy close proximity to houses of worship

Thousands of Summerlin residents will celebrate the holiday season this year with family and friends at one of Summerlin's many houses of worship. Summerlin is home to more houses of worship than any other master-planned community in Las Vegas, making it easy for residents to worship in their own neighborhood.
"We live within walking distance to our chapel and it's wonderful," said Summerlin resident Gregory Lish. "We meet there frequently to worship, socialize with friends and neighbors and participate in a variety of activities and events. Houses of worship uniquely serve as symbols of faith, tradition, unity and reverence. As such, they become the most important and beautiful buildings in the community to the residents who frequently visit them."
Summerlin's first house of worship opened in 1993 -- just two years after Summerlin's first family moved into the community. Today, the community is home to 14 houses of worship representing nine different faiths.
"Houses of worship have been an integral component of Summerlin's master-plan from the beginning," said Kevin Orrock, executive vice president of master-planned communities for The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin. "And as development continues in Summerlin, more houses of worship will open adding to the religious diversity we celebrate here in the community."
Existing houses of worship in Summerlin include two chapels for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Desert Spring United Methodist Church, Faith Community Lutheran Church, Grace in the Desert Episcopal Church, Hindu Temple and Cultural Center -- Hindu Society of Nevada, Mountain View Presbyterian, St. Andrew Lutheran, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Summerlin Community Baptist Church, The Summerlin Evangelical Lutheran Church (Wisconsin synod), Sun City Community Church, Temple Sinai, reform Judaism, and Temple Beth Sholom, conservative Judaism.
Developed by The Howard Hughes Corp., Summerlin began to take shape in 1990 and has ranked in the country's top 10 best-selling master-planned communities for nearly two decades.
Located along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley, Summerlin encompasses 22,500 acres with about 7,500 acres still remaining to accommodate future growth within the master plan.
The community is currently home to nearly 100,000 residents who enjoy amenities such as more than 150 neighborhood and village parks, more than 150 miles of the Summerlin Trail System, 26 public and private schools, nine golf courses, shopping centers, medical and cultural facilities, business parks and more than three dozen actively selling floor plans.
Homes are available in a variety of styles -- from single-family homes to townhomes, condominiums and lofts -- priced from the mid-$100,000s to more than $1 million. Custom-home sites in The Ridges are priced from the high $200,000s. Luxury apartment homes offer monthly rents starting from the $800s.
