JEWISH SINGLES TO MEET JAN. 2

The Jewish Singles 55 plus Social Club for men and women plans to meet at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 2 at the Jewish Community Center building of Temple Sinai's campus, 9001 Hillpointe Road. Guests are welcome. CHEFS FOR KIDS PLAN 5K RUN AND 1 MILE FUN WALK FOR JAN. 19

The Chefs for Kids 5K Run/1 Mile Fun Walk is scheduled for 9 a.m. Jan. 19 at W. Wayne Bunker Family Park, 7351 W. Alexander Road.

Each runner/walker will receive a long-sleeved T-shirt, a goodie bag and a free pancake breakfast. There also will be a raffle. The Las Vegas Track Club will provide race bibs and computerized timing. Trophies will be awarded in each age category, which begin with 12.

Participant fees are $25 for adults for the 5K and $20 for the fun walk, $20 for children 12 or younger and per runner for groups of 10 or more. Race-day fee is $35. Online registration is available at active.com, or mail checks payable to LVTC to P.O. Box 30134, Las Vegas, NV 89173.

U.S. TENNIS ASSOCIATION-NEVADA SEEKS DONATED EQUIPMENT

The United States Tennis Association-Nevada is asking for donations of old wooden tennis rackets, usable tennis rackets, old trophies, ball machines, items for a silent auction or raffle, a digital photo camera, an office phone system and computers or laptops. HOSPICE PET THERAPY PROGRAM SEEKS DOG BEDS AND BLANKETS

Nathan Adelson Hospice's Pet Therapy Program is promoting its second annual Dog Bed & Blanket Drive to benefit local animal shelters. Through Jan. 31, Nathan Adelson Hospice and the Jolley Urga Wirth Woodbury & Standish law firm will be collecting new or gently used dog beds and blankets, towels and unopened dog food.

YOGA CLASS RAISES MONEY FOR VICTIMS OF HURRICANE SANDY

Sunny Arfa's Yoga at The Park, which meets at The Vistas Park, 11311 Alta Drive, each weekend in warm weather, raised $200 for the American Red Cross to assist victims of Hurricane Sandy.

LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY RECEIVES $10,000 FROM FIREFIGHTERS UNION

The Southern Nevada office of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society received a $10,000 check from the Clark County Firefighters Union.

The annual Go Pink fundraiser, held in October, sent firefighters to community venues wearing the pink T-shirts they also sold to raise funds for cancer research and patient support. The funds will help address quality-of-life issues such as educating local patients and health care professionals, assisting local patients with treatment costs and providing national research to help find a cure for blood cancers. The holidays can be a hard time for those grieving the loss of a loved one. NATHAN ADELSON HOSPICE SEEKS DONATIONS THROUGH MONDAY

Nevada's largest nonprofit hospice organization, Nathan Adelson Hospice, is accepting donations through Monday for families that have gone through the hospice process and seek assistance in their time of need. The Families in Need program assists those patients and families at Nathan Adelson Hospice that might not always be able to afford everyday necessities. The hospice provides care and support to more than 450 patients and families each day as their loved ones makes their end-of-life journey.

Among the "wish list" items are gift cards from Walmart, grocery stores, Babies R Us and Target, as well as gasoline cards. Nonperishables needed include peanut butter, jelly, tuna, spaghetti sauce, dry pasta, soups and non-refrigerator microwaveable items.

SIGN UP NOW TO RACE FOR A CAUSE

The MS Run the US 2013 Relay, slated for April 16 through Sept. 17, is seeking 14 running partners to take part in each leg of this coast-to-coast run. Each segment covers approximately 140 miles of running over the course of six days. All proceeds raised will support multiple sclerosis research. The never-before-done aspect of the relay will also raise awareness of MS.

According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, MS affects approximately 400,000 Americans. Symptoms include walking and balance disturbances, muscle spasms and cognitive dysfunction. A new study conducted by pharmacy benefit manager Prime Therapeutics has found that the specialty drug treatment cost for MS is projected to exceed $50,000 per person annually by 2016.
