County Vector Control monitoring insect infestation

The Sloan Channel near Charleston Boulevard has seen significant algae growth after less than two months of constant flow of effluent from the North Las Vegas Water Reclamation Facility.

The new wet conditions along the Sloan Channel have resulted in an infestation of chironomid midges recently discovered around the channel. The flying insects, which resemble mosquitoes, don't bite and present no immediate health risk. Clark County Vector Control is monitoring the situation.
