GOVERNMENT AUCTION PLANNED

An auction featuring items from several government agencies is scheduled at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Clark County storage lot at 4320 Stephanie St. off East Flamingo Road near Dog Fancier's Park.

AT GYMKHANA EVENT

Southern Nevada Gymkhana is set to host equestrian competitions involving timed and pattern-oriented races such as barrel racing from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Horseman's Park, 5800 E. Parents can seek tips at Higher education preparation program

Roads to Higher Education in Partnership with University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday and May 23 at the Sunrise Library, 5400 Harris Ave. Financial aid, application deadlines and citizenship questions are among the topics to be discussed by parents of students in grades 9 through 12, representatives of high schools and local colleges, college-age mentors, local nonprofits and cooperative extension staff. Wednesday's event is set to be presented in Spanish.

Skate Competition Scheduled

The Zumiez Best Foot Forward amateur skateboarding contest series is scheduled to make a stop in Las Vegas at 6 p.m. May 23 at SkateCity Indoor Skatepark, 4915 Steptoe St., No. 600. Sign up and practice is set to begin at 4 p.m. The top amateur skater from each of the 19 contest stops is set to get an all-expense paid trip to the Zumiez Couch Tour's final stop in Bloomington, Minn., to compete in the finals on June 26. The top three finalists will win a trip to Los Angeles to film at famous skate spots, visit private skateparks, compete in the Hometown Heroes Finals at Summer X Games 18 and receive a one-year sponsorship from Bones Bearings. NASCAR race set for May 26

The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Memorial Weekend Special is scheduled from 5 to 11 p.m. May 26 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, 7000 Las Vegas Blvd. North. The event is set to include a demolition derby and races . Advance tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for children and $8 for seniors and military. An Asian-American Heritage Craft Buffet is scheduled from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Whitney Library, 5175 E. Tropicana Ave. Teens are invited to make a paper lantern.
