Tax hike? Tax cut? Let’s get it straight

While Nevada politicians may love circular and ambiguous conversations that confuse the public about taxes, the fuzzy language on taxes isn't much help ot the average Nevadan looking to make sense of it all.

The online magazine Slate can help. Writer Christopher Beam lays out in plain language the different way politicians raise and cut taxes, and the ways they seek to avoid acknowledging what they're doing.

The money paragraph: "Tax policy is a lot more complicated than 'cuts' and 'hikes.' Yet politicians insist on reducing every proposal to one of the two. If the debate over tax policy is going to be accurate, it's probably worth diversifying our terminology."
