THEATER: Signature Productions holding auditions for ‘Singin’ in the Rain’
November 12, 2010 - 4:08 pm
Signature Productions — which specializes in big-budget family musicals (and often good ones) — will be holding auditions starting Monday for the stage version of "Singin' in the Rain," based on the highly regarded MGM film.
The tryouts, to be held at the Nevada Ballet Theatre, 1651 Inner Circle Drive, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday and continue each evening at the same time until Thursday. Dance calls are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Nov. 20. (It's necessary to attend only one of the two time slots.)
Callbacks (by invitation only) will be held at the Nevada Ballet Theatre during the week of Dec. 6.
All roles, consisting of actors, dancers and singers are up for grabs. There are two roles for children (8 to 14 years of age) who must have tap background.
Auditionees should prepare a 32-bar vocal selection, which can be from "Singin' in the Rain" or a similarly styled Broadway musical. If a selection from a show other than "Singin' " is used, sheet music will be needed, in the proper key. An accompanist will be provided. Dance hopefuls will need to dress for movement, and tap shoes will be helpful.
A headshot and resume are recommended.
The production is being directed by Leslie Fotheringham, with musical direction by Shauna Oblad and choreography by Teresa Martinez.

The show runs March 28 through April 30. As with most community theater, there is no pay.
