Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, 15 miles west of Las Vegas on state Route 159, is set to host its annual Civil War Days re-enactment Friday through Sunday. Friday is set aside as an education day with groups demonstrating traditional roles from the era from noon to 3 p.m. Battles are scheduled at 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The final battle is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Sunday. The park entrance fee is $7 per car for Nevada residents. Entrance into the re-enactment camps is $5 for adults, $3 for children 6 to 17 and free for children 5 or younger. Bring in two nonperishable food items to receive $1 off one adult ticket. The Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, plans to host a scarecrow making event at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 7. Advanced registration is required and will cost $5 with a current $2 senior center membership. A PVC skeleton and a base will be provided, but participants are asked to bring an old pair of jeans and shirt, dress and shoes to create a scarecrow that will be used to decorate the center. Las Vegas City Councilman Steve Ross plans to host the Cowboy Christmas and Classic Car Show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 1 at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, 9200 Tule Springs Road. The free event is scheduled to include photos with Santa, hay rides, a petting zoo, a jump house, face painting, a farmers market, craft and food vendors and historic ranch house tours. Centennial, Shadow Ridge, Arbor View, Saville, Scherkenbach, Escobedo, Lied and Cadwallader school choirs plan to perform. The U.S. Marines will be collecting toys for Toys for Tots Drive, and the city will collect nonperishable food for needy seniors in the area.
