Goodwill of Southern Nevada is set to open its new Henderson location at 9 a.m. March 27 at 1390 American Pacific Drive. The new store replaces an existing one at 2851 N. Green Valley Parkway, set to close March 26 after being open for more than 15 years. The new 16,000-square-foot building offers the nonprofit more than double the space of the previous location, including a 10,000-square-foot sales floor and drive-thru donation center. By expanding the Henderson store, 15 new jobs were created.

Residents of Las Vegas can view the Commemorative Air Force’s iconic Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber and other World War II military aircraft on display through March 29 at the Henderson Executive Airport, 3500 Executive Terminal Drive. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 10 to 17. Children younger than 10 are free. The airplanes will be on static display when they are not flying. B-29 cockpit tours are included in the admission price. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Ride prices range from $75 to $1,895. Ride reservations can made at airpowertour.org.

The Henderson Firefighters Benevolent Association plans its seventh annual Memorial Golf Tournament commemorating Jeff “The Pirate” Mann, a fallen Henderson firefighter, at 8 a.m. March 27 at Revere Golf Course, 600 Hampton Road. Proceeds from the tournament will go toward supporting various local charities such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson, American Cancer Society, Rebuilding Together, the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation, the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter, CASA Foundation and S.A.F.E. EARLY VOTING FOR MUNICIPAL ELECTION SCHEDULED THROUGHOUT CITY

Early voting opportunities for the 2015 City of Henderson municipal election are set to be available through April 3 at various locations in the city. The primary election is April 7, and the general election is June 2.

NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR SENIOR CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Nominations are being sought for Nevada’s Senior Citizen of the Year. Anyone 60 or older who has lived in Nevada for at least five years is eligible to be nominated.

The National Silver Haired Congress Nevada Delegation, in partnership with the Aging Services Directors Organization, established the award in 2013. Las Vegas resident Raymonde Fiol, 77, was the 2014 recipient.

The deadline for nominations is March 31. Guidelines and nomination forms are available at nevshc.org or by calling 702-860-6349. The award is to be presented in May.

APPLICATIONS FOR CITY JUNIOR LEADERSHIP PROGRAM DUE APRIL 10

The City of Henderson is set to accept applications for its Teens-N-Training junior leadership program through 6 p.m. April 10.

The program provides teens 14 and 15 with hands-on learning and training experiences designed to instill leadership, responsibility, teamwork and self-confidence. Teens are selected through an interview process and given summer assignments based on skills, interests and availability.

Participation is $110 per teen and includes training and T-shirts. Applications can be mailed or hand delivered to the City of Henderson’s Youth Enrichment Office, 280 S. Water St.

CITY PLANS WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE

The city of Henderson plans its Lighten Up Henderson challenge in the spring with weigh-ins the week of April 6 and weigh-outs the week of May 25. Details on program prizes and rules will be announced closer to the weigh-in date.

APPLICANTS SOUGHT FOR HENDERSON SENIOR GAMES

The city of Henderson is seeking athletes to take part in the 2015 Henderson Senior Games, set for April 11-26, an annual program that blends sporting and social events for athletes 50 or older.

Athletes of all skill levels are invited to participate. Registration is accepted through March 31 and is $15 per person (with the exception of volleyball), which includes a commemorative T-shirt. There is a cost of $3 to $5 per event.

Registration packets are available at cityofhenderson.com and at all city of Henderson recreation centers. The 2015 Henderson Senior Games are set to take place a variety of Henderson locations, including recreation centers, parks and schools. Awards are planned following each event.

SILVERADO HIGH SCHOOL YEARBOOK RECEIVES RECOGNITION

Silverado High School’s yearbook, The Talon, was recently recognized for its excellence and featured in the 2015 Jostens Look Book, celebrating the best-of-the-best in yearbook design and coverage.

The Jostens Look Book is a collection of spreads and photos from outstanding yearbooks. Along with design excellence, the annually published Look Book honors the important role well-crafted yearbooks play in helping schools chronicle the experiences, stories and achievements most relevant to students and that academic year.

The Talon was created by yearbook staff and senior editors Emerald McCarter and Chelsea Kemp under the direction of Kathleen Bushnell, the school’s yearbook adviser.
