Third Best of Summerlin poll announces 15 winners

Summerlin fans recently voted in the third Best of Summerlin campaign, an interactive promotion designed to recognize some of the community's most popular amenities.

"Summerlin is home to hundreds of great amenities so identifying the most popular is not as easy as one would think," said Kevin Orrock, president of Summerlin and executive vice president of master-planned communities for Summerlin's developer, The Howard Hughes Corp.

"But 15 winners were identified and have earned bragging rights for the year. We wish them continued success in our community."

■ For the third year, BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse claimed the community's best dessert award with its signature Pizookie - a giant, hot-out-of-the-oven cookie served in its own deep dish and topped with two scoops of vanilla bean ice cream.

■ Hills Center Drive, which boasts Summerlin's iconic double tree-lined streets and lush landscaping, maintained its status as the community's best streetscape.

■ Two-time award recipients include Yard House for best appetizer and best happy hour.

■ Vintner Grill won the best restaurant division.

■ TPC Summerlin took best golf course.

■ Canyon Pointe Shopping Center received the best place to shop award.

■ Red Rock Resort placed No. 1 in the best architecture category.

■ The Summerlin Council Patriotic Parade earned the best community event.

New winners in the 2012 campaign include:

■ The Vistas Community Park for best park;

■ Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, best trail and most scenic spot;

■ Capriotti's, best meal for less than $10;

■ Red Rock Resort, best place to people watch.

■ Red Rock Resort and Vintner Grill tied for the best place to take a date award.

The Best of Summerlin campaign was hosted on Summerlin's Facebook page, www.facebook.com/summerlinlv, which currently has more than 4,500 fans.

The page launched in 2010 and has become a hot spot for Summerlin fans to learn more about the community, including activity and event announcements, community facts and promotional campaigns.

"We encourage anyone interested in Summerlin and its programming to become a fan of the community on Facebook," Orrock said.

Summerlin began to take shape in 1990.

For nearly two decades, it has been ranked by national and regional research firms in the country's top 10 best-selling master-planned communities.

Located along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley, Summerlin encompasses 22,500 acres with about 7,500 acres still remaining to accommodate future growth within the master plan.

The community is home to nearly 100,000 residents.

Amenities within the community include more than 150 neighborhood and village parks, more than 150 miles of the Summerlin Trail System, 26 public and private schools, 14 houses of worship, nine golf courses, shopping centers, medical and cultural facilities, business parks and more than three dozen actively selling floor plans.

Homes are available in a variety of styles - from single-family homes to townhomes, condominiums and lofts - priced from the high $100,000s to more than $1 million.

Custom-home sites in The Ridges are priced from the high $200,000s.

Luxury apartment homes offer monthly rents starting from the $800s.
