Titus says her reported opposition to health reform proposals is out of context

Rep. Dina Titus, D-Nev., says a recent item on the Drudge Report listing her as an opponent of health reform proposals in the House of Representatives is technically true, but out of context and out of date.

Titus spokesman Andrew Stoddard says the report is accurate in that it reflects the way Titus voted, no, on one version of reform in July.

But since then Titus has made clear she supports reform, just not some of the specifics in the version she saw.

"She believes we need health care reform, the status quo is unacceptable, and she supports a number of reform principles being discusses. She had concerns with the bill in committee, but the final bill will look very different, and she will wait to see the final bill before making any decisions," Stoddard said.

Here's what Titus said after that vote: "This was a difficult vote. There are positive aspects of this legislation like ending the practice of denial based on preexisting conditions and making insurance portable. I know that families across Nevada are struggling due to the high cost of health care, but I have concerns regarding the tax portion of this legislation. We are working hard to lift our economy out of this recession and to promote growth and job creation. Increasing taxes that can affect small businesses in my district will make it harder for them to be the engines of growth that pull us out of this recession and put people back to work."

An analysis in The Atlantic seems to back up Titus' version of events.

The Atlantic reports: "A handful of Reps on the GOP's list, like Jason Altmire (PA), Earl Pomeroy (ND), and Dina Titus (NV), voted against parts of the bill in their respective committees, which doesn't really count as a referendum on the bill as a whole. Blue Dog Rep. John Tanner (TN), simply said Democrats should "take a deep breath and go at this thing incrementally."
