Trek takes Land Rover owners to Mojave Desert ghost towns

Land Rover Las Vegas' second-quarter customer Wheels Event, where the dealership takes Land Rover owners and their families out on excursions for the day to show the capabilities of their vehicles, meet new people and just have a good time, was held June 3.

The excursion took them throughout the Mojave National Preserve, which is about an hour away from Las Vegas. The area is full of abandoned mines and ghost towns, and surrounded by majestic Joshua trees.

The group stopped at Ivanpah, which was a 19th century train stop, walked through the Goldome Mill, then trekked up to the town of Vanderbilt, which boasted three saloons, three restaurants and a two-story hotel owned by Virgil Earp, Wyatt's brother.

Lunch was at the restored Kelso train depot. Then the group stopped at a Death Valley mining camp where participants were able to walk through several complete houses from the very early 20th century before returning to Las Vegas.

Land Rover Las Vegas is at 5255 W. Sahara Ave. For more information, call the dealership at 579-0400.
