Trudi’s romance quickie: ‘Border Lass’
“Border Lass” by Amanda Scott is the second book of a trilogy, but Scott was able to make the story stand on its own without the reader having to read the first book, “Border Wedding.”
Although Lady Amalie Murray is a young woman, at the age of marriage, she vows never to marry any man. She uses her position as waiting lady for Princess Isabel to avoid going home and facing the arranged marriage her brother has planned. Sir Garth Napier is drawn to her and catches her eavesdropping at the new king’s coronation. Even though Garth has no immediate plans to marry, he can’t help but feel protective of Amalie and is worried about the conversation she overheard. What is foremost in his mind is finding a murderer, about whom he believes Amalie has information. The protectiveness Sir Garth feels for Amalie is used by Princess Isabel to ensure Amalie’s safety from the governor of Scotland who believes himself the King of Scots.
There is a lot of intrigue, mystery and Scottish history in Scott’s novel. This reader is going to look for “Border Wedding,” and I can’t wait until January when the last one will be released, “Border Moonlight.”
